FUN MOTIVATING WAYS TO ENCOURAGE EXPRESSIVE COMMUNICATION IN YOUR CLIENTS USING AAC Communication Symbols in your therapy session.

Asking is a valuable way to begin introducing young clients to AAC. This SpeechPage set of Therapy Materials is designed to teach the client to learn skills beyond asking for food or other objects! Instead of asking to get an item for themselves, the focus of these SpeechPages is to help the client learn expressive AAC communication through asking someone else to complete a desired outcomes (i.e. The clinician performs a desired task after being told to do so by the client whom is using special communication symbols!) The client is to use these FOUR SpeechPages with specialized illustrated picture communication symbol cards attached with velcro to request that the clinician perform an action such as making a rabbit disappear in the magicians hat or feeding a hungry boy a hamburger! These specially fabricated SpeechPages allow you to perform the requested task right with the Page itself! No further props are need for your session!

Real life is filled with needs to ask for people to do things for us, yet it is often a struggle to teach this type of concept of expressive communication. These specialized SpeechPages are designed to work on that form of expressive communication. In addition to those using exchange communication methods, it is possible that students with emerging vocal skills or with pointing communication skills could also use these SpeechPages with their mode of communication as well. In some cases a clinician could also attach the velcroed communication symbols to a client's introductory type speech generating communication device and program in a matching expressive message if appropriate.

When you try to make an activity like this using a computer program for communication symbols you may just end up with a lot of abstract pictures that do not look like the outcome the student would request.
When working with students with Autism and other developmental disabilities you will find that abstract pictures are difficult for the students to understand.

At SpeechPage.com, ALL are images are illustrated by a Speech Language Pathologist with 20 years of experience who is specialist in AAC, and has worked with large numbers of students with Autism for over 15 years. You get what you need for the AAC task at hand. NO GENERIC & Abstract CLIP ART! It really makes a difference with this type of Speech Therapy!
(CLIP ART COMPUTER PROGRAMS ARE DESIGNED FOR EVERYONE, BUT THESE SPEECHPAGES ARE ILLUSTRATED & DESIGNED BY AN EXPERIENCED SLP FOR AAC SPEECH THERAPY ONLY!)

Suggestions for Therapy sheet is also included! NOTE: The qualified Clinician using this product should have a familiarity with Alternative/Augmentative Communication systems and the exchange of communication symbols as a method of communication.

Recommendations for appropriate Speech Language Therapy, therapy materials or communication systems can only be made by a qualified Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) following a formal multi-factored Speech and Language evaluation.
There are many different aspects of the individual's abilities and degrees of severity of communication abilities, methods, and differences that must first be determined through formal evaluation by a qualified professional before therapy can begin. Not all clients are capable of using specific forms of AAC.
